Find Your Feedback: A Writer's Guide to Notes with Kathryn Gould

An interactive workshop that explores what it’s like to be a part of a writer's group, whether that's in a writer's room or a group of friends that support one another. In this workshop we will explore basic story structure, the difference between writing groups and writer's rooms, advice from other writers who have been in the room; and how to get the job, keep the job, and stay sane. Kathryn Gould will give you helpful guidelines for getting and receiving feedback and structuring a productive writer's group.

Beginner (1 hour) (10 – 11 am):
- Basic story structure and the language of screenwriting.
- Difference between writing groups and writing rooms.
Advanced (2 hours) (11:15 am – 12:15 pm, 45 min lunch break, 1 pm – 2 pm):
- Advice from the trenches – what writers who have worked in writers’ rooms say about
getting the job, keeping the job, and staying sane.
- Guidelines for giving great feedback and receiving feedback
- Structure for a productive writers’ group
Finding your people (45 min) (2:15 – 3 pm):
- Divide into groups (predetermined by questionnaire) and take time to make decisions about
how the group will operate; exchange info. Get to know each other. Sign commitment
forms.
