  • Movies are forever and TV is golden, but the real action is in the digital realm — and it’s very easy to break in! You’ve got lots to say, so say it with a digital series featuring short bursts of storytelling, education, or inspiration. Whether for your YouTube channel or a vertical series platform, learn the basic principles of content development and production, and best yet, learn how to launch it…for very little money or experience!

    Instructor - Trai Cartwright

  • There will be a quick overview of the basics and then the fun part-- hands-on learning where you’ll help build and light an interview setup just like on set. There will be a guided walkthrough of a clean, repeatable setup and delve into G&E problem-solving so you can walk away ready to light your next shoot with ease.

Instructors - Mary Jeanes & Cheshire Li

  • Getting consistent freelance work is so much more than your reel. Learn how to stay in the black book and off the black list. She'll talk about what you need in place from a business perspective, what it's like working on large scale film projects, and explain how studio relationships with freelance talent can be most successful.

  • Scene Lab Day 1 with Colorado-based writer Kathryn Gould & actor Alicia Leeper.

Calling all writers, actors, and writer-actors! This a two day workshop about what makes a great scene from both a writing and performance standpoint. On the first day, we'll read some great scenes from movies and TV and talk about what makes them great, and work on cold-reading skills for actors. On the second day, writers will bring in their own scenes and we'll get them on their feet to see how they're working.

  • with JULIE ANN CROMMETT. Join us for a conversation around building purpose-drive ventures from the ground up while balancing creativity, strategy and impact.

  • Join Anna Halberg for an intimate, no-fluff conversation about producing—how projects get packaged, financed, and actually made, plus the creative instincts and practical decisions that keep a film moving from idea to screen. Come ready for real talk, sharp takeaways, and a few behind-the-scenes stories.

  • Kelly Baug takes a deep dive into the global and nationwide incentive landscape; the evolution of the Colorado film incentive program; and the current refundable tax credit program.

  • Step right up for the grossly delightful art of movie magic. Stephie Lane and Michelle Knoebel will turn fresh faces into fresh injuries—think bruises, cuts, scrapes, and “wow, are you okay?” realism that’s 100% camera-safe (and 0% HR incident).

You’ll see how pros build believable effects that read on set and on screen—what to use, how to layer it, and the little cheat codes that make blood look right under different lighting. Come for the craft, stay for the satisfying squish factor… and leave ready to make your next scene look like it really happened (without anyone actually having to file a report).

Panelists - Chesire Li (G&E), Sara Salazar (stunts) and more.

Sunday, March 1

  • Come early, grab a coffee and meet a few new fellow filmmakers—your next collaborator.

  • 80% of what Hollywood produces and tons of successfully distributed indie films are an adaptation from an intellectual property, but how to make the leap from to film/TV successfully? It doesn’t matter what the IP is—books, articles, TikToks, or even songs—this class will give into the principle adaptation development elements, including how to narrow (or widen) the story and the cast, how to zero in on the all-important theme, how to think visually for the screen, and of course what “kind” of adaptation is right for your property.

    Instructor - Trai Cartwright

  • Stop guessing. Start booking.
Emmy-nominated CD Jamie Castro (Scandal, Friday Night Lights) coaches what makes casting lean in. Alt: Emmy-nominated casting director (Inventing Anna; Scandal; Grey’s Anatomy) shares what books—and why.

  • Filmmaking and the Cancer Journey brings together Keonia Williams, Kathryn Gould, and Mary Beth Eversole for an intimate conversation on creating work while navigating diagnosis, treatment, caregiving, and recovery. Moderated by Maya Jairam, this panel explores how storytelling can hold grief and humor, offer agency, and turn lived experience into art—without losing tenderness for the people at the center of it.

  • irecting VO with Nell Teare is a practical, behind-the-mic session on getting performances that feel natural, specific, and story-driven—whether you’re directing talent or stepping up to record your own voiceover. Expect tips on tone, pacing, script markup, remote sessions, and the small adjustments that take a read from “fine” to finished.

  • Building a sustainable career in film and media today often means learning how to navigate uncertainty. Roe Moore focuses on how creative professionals can identify transferable skills, move between narrative, documentary, live event, and stage formats to build adaptability into their careers. Through practical insights and real-world examples, we’ll explore what’s worked, what’s still evolving, and how to keep moving forward without getting discouraged.

  • Special effects makeup artists Stephie Lane and Michelle Knoebel break down how makeup reads under every kind of lighting—from soft beauty light to harsh top-light to mixed-color chaos—so your work holds up on camera.

  • Join Sara Salazar and the Rocky Mountain Stunts Team for a behind-the-scenes look at how jaw-dropping action gets built safely—and made to look huge on camera. From fight choreography and precision driving to rigs, wires, and practical effects, they’ll share the pro workflow that turns bold ideas into clean, shootable, director-friendly stunts.

  • This workshop explores best practices for handling intimacy during auditions and callbacks. Reviews

“The event that you put together was warm and inspiring, and it was such an honor to be a part of it. Every single person I encountered, whether it be a volunteer, board member, or even attendee were generous and helpful. In a time when the world feels really scary, you created a safe space for a series of weirdos who all love the same thing and got to geek out about it together. Your passion is infectious and inspiring and to be in your orbit for a day was incredibly rewarding.”

— Katy Petrella, 2025

“I had such a great experience at last year’s WIFMCO Industry Fair—honestly, it felt like a shot of creative espresso.”

— IF Attendee

“Being a speaker last year’s event was such an energizing reminder of how much talent (and generosity) lives in this community. I am thrilled to continue connecting the dots and building this film community while serving on the WIFMCO board.”
