Frida 2024 | R, 87 min.

Presented in partnership with The Latino Chamber of Commerce of Boulder County and Women in Film & Media Colorado.

• Screening to be followed by a conversation with the film’s director Carla Gutiérrez and filmmaker MG Evangelista.

• Before the screening, all are invited to join us for a meet & greet with the filmmakers, Sundance Film Festival staff, and partners, beginning at 6pm.

The Longmont Museum welcomes back the Sundance Film Festival for this special screening of Carla Gutiérrez’s documentary Frida, which premiered at the festival in 2024 and received the Jonathan Oppenheim Editing Award: U.S. Documentary. All are invited to join us for a meet & greet with the filmmakers and Sundance Film Festival staff before the film beginning at 6pm.

An intimately raw and magical journey through the life, mind and heart of iconic artist Frida Kahlo, Frida is told through her own words for the very first time. Drawn from her famed illustrated diary, the film reveals letters, essays and candid print interviews — and is brought vividly to life by lyrical animation inspired by her unforgettable artwork. The feature film directorial debut of acclaimed editor Carla Gutiérrez (RBG, La Corona), Frida posits a striking context as to why the artist – and her art – remains as powerful as ever. Through writing, sharings, and somatic experiences we will tune into various fears we hold in regards to our work and our creative process - i.e. fear of judgement, fear of failure, fear of “not being good enough”, fears around risk taking, etc. We will acknowledge them, work with them, and gain a deeper understanding of how they may be preventing us from embracing our full creative potential.

The WOO WOO Series with Elizabeth Mihelich

When the industry feels like a nightmare, how do you keep dreaming?

Filmmaking has never been an easy path, but periods of uncertainty, shrinking opportunities, creative burnout, and constant change can make even the most experienced filmmaker question what comes next.
