In the Absence of Light, is a documentary film about the search for one’s Self amidst the chaos of an ever more globalized, yet disconnected world. The project began in 2019 after Jeramey Weston and Johnny Gleason traveled to Chile together to witness the totality of a solar eclipse. During their travels, they met a series of characters from all corners of the planet that chase eclipses. They began to realize that an interesting thread was spooling. These people are not only chasing eclipses, but are searching for the sense of identity and connection they feel is missing in the modern world. The film explores this current identity crisis and the resulting dissatisfaction and unhappiness. We recently traveled to Brazil and Chile to follow this consort of die-hard chasers as they overcame borders closed by the pandemic to gather once again and experience yet another total eclipse. In December 2021 our crew will travel to Antarctica to capture the chaser community as it comes together once again.
