Don Colacino
They say necessity is the mother of invention. If that’s true then I guess I’ve always needed to create things. I’ve created radio shows, computer hardware and software, training courses, and now films. In 2017, after decades in other industries, I went back to school to earn a degree in writing and producing. That’s where I first heard about WIFMCO. Trai Cartwright, one of our founding members, was on the faculty at Colorado Film School. She made us aware of the many organizations that support filmmakers, but WIFMCO stood out as one of the most active.
I joined WIFMCO in 2018 and have been a Board Member At-Large since 2019. My production company, Colacino Productions LLC, produces commercial, industrial, and documentary films. My most recent documentary, Winner Take All, was named official selection at three film festivals, and was picked up by a Denver television station thanks to a connection I made through WIFMCO. Besides my documentary work, I became a Part 107-certified drone pilot in 2020, and have also dabbled in animation as part of my commercial work. You’ll find a few samples of my work below.
I’m also a member of the WIFMCO Website Committee who are responsible for the new WIFMCO website you’re looking at now. One of the most significant improvements we’ve made is the addition of a “Member List” page, where WIFMCO members can post their skills, bio’s, and contact information so they can be found by other filmmakers looking for talent. On the “Privacy” tab of your profile you can choose what information to share with other members, the public at large, or no one at all. The section you are viewing now, called “Member Showcase,” is a public showcase that we’ll regularly update with stories and content produced by our members to highlight the film and media talent available right here in Colorado. There’s also a new “Events” page that includes a calendar view where you can click on any day’s events to see details and register to attend. Over the coming months we will continue to add more content and build up the resources available to WIFMCO members. Use the “Contact Us” form to give us feedback to make the site more valuable to you.
